The Developers of the Process...

John O'Brien and Connie Lyle O'Brien ( web site ) developed this process through a pilot project in Wisconsin. They have learned about building more just and inclusive communities from people with disabilities, their families, and their allies for over 30 years. They developed and tested these exercises in cooperation with more than fifty agencies.

"A mind that is streched by a new idea can never go back to its original dimensions."

-Oliver Wendell Holmes

This learning process will be a continued discussion amongst employees at Total Living Concept throughout the year. It is a process that honors the accomplishments of people with developmental disabilities and their direct support staff and promotes discovery of meaning in the work of offering direct support. Upon the completion of the ten exercises we will ask direct support staff how and what they would like to do with the work that they have completed. We will also share what other organizations did with their work and be up for suggestions and support.
