Our Social Justice Lens

At TLC we operate with a social justice lens with the belief ALL people deserve not only equity in rights and opportunities but liberation from any form of oppression.  In order to determine where oppression still exists we listen to people.  While we believe everyone has a voice, we also acknowledge many people’s voices are difficult to hear and understand.  While listening and allying with people we have learned that all people want and need a voice that is heard and understood.  For many this includes the ability to communicate in a way that other people understand.

TLC is committed to supporting people to develop their communication system, whatever it may look like.  TLC also recognizes technology is an important tool in supporting individuals to develop reliable and understandable communication.  TLC has provided each person who chooses our services with an iPad and access to any application that supports the person to have a voice.

In addition, we offer training and ongoing support for all TLC employees and people who choose our services to learn and build using this tool. This is one piece of supporting people to have a voice. Every person we support has access to whatever support and learning opportunities they need to fully develop their own voice.
